For those who are curious about nature, its laws and inner workings, thrives in research and the teaching environment, should consider studying physics. Physicists try to find those laws, which processes and phenomena form the basis of nature; these in turn are used to forecast and control technical processes. Therefore, physics is at the heart of many technical applications.
The Leibniz Universität Hannover is internationally recognized in physics research, and therefore can offer a plethora of study and specialization possibilities. Some of these possibilities include gravitational physics, laser physics and quantum optics, for which exist several clusters of excellence. The opportunity to specialize in applied physics is possible by the close relationship to the engineering disciplines, the Laser Zentrum Hannover, the Medical University and the Institute for Solar Energy Research.
The master’s degree in physics provides for the first time, the opportunity for local and international students from WS15/16 to complete their studies by selecting either German or English language module courses in their preferred language. Long-term support is facilitated through the use of additional resources, such as language courses and “language tandems”.
The master’s program is research-oriented and initially covers advanced knowledge of three basic research areas: Solid state physics, Quantum optics and Gravitation. In the further course of studies, it is possible to specialize in one of these areas and gain access to the cutting edge of modern research. This is supplemented by a one-year research phase, where students will be guided into independent scientific work.
