Master International Affairs at Hertie School in Berlin

The Hertie School’s Master of International Affairs (MIA) equips outstanding students and young professionals with the tools of international policymaking in order to take on global challenges and devise sound policy proposals in a multilevel system. MIA graduates are well prepared for positions requiring a profound understanding of today’s global policy challenges in government, diplomacy and international organisations, as well as in the private and civil society sectors.

Policymakers and experts today are confronted with a wide array of global challenges. These range from a crisis-prone global economy and its repercussions, to security challenges such as new regional instabilities, nuclear proliferation, cyber warfare and conflicts over limited resources. To meet such challenges successfully in a rapidly transforming context, knowing how to navigate the complex landscape of diverse actors and disciplines is crucial.

At the end of their first semester, MIA students specialise in one of three areas of concentration:

  • International security
  • European governance
  • Human rights and global governance
