The Master's combines a solid theoretical foundation with attention for the field of arts. After graduating, you’ll be a valuable asset to the cultural sector, thanks to your theoretical and methodological knowledge, your well-developed communication skills and your knowledge of the latest scientific insights. The Master's offers two specialisations: Tourism and Culture and Creative Industries.

Creative Industries: The creative industries is a fast-changing sector where the focus is on the tension between creativity and commerce. You may wonder how it could be any different, in a world where creativity has become a commodity. In the Master’s specialisation in Creative Industries, we focus on the artistic product. We look at the wonderful new world where high fashion interacts with technological gadgets and where television series are gaining ground on cinema. You will also study our (post-)industrial society as a cultural phenomenon.
Tourism and Culture:Tourism has developed into one of the prime industries in the global economy. According to the World Travel & Tourist Council, the tourism sector supports 1 in 10 jobs on the planet. By combining historical, literary, art-historical and other humanities approaches, and by integrating academic research with practical challenges, the Master's specialisation in Tourism and Culture will train you as an academic expert and an innovative professional in the field of cultural tourism.

Graduates could work as: Consultant art education for an educational organisation, cultural policy-maker, Programme organiser at a film festival, trend watcher for companies, project leader at a heritage site, publicist for a lifestyle magazine or newspaper or communication or education officer at a heritage site.

Your admission depends on your previous education. You are admissible to Creative Industries if you have a completed Bachelor's degree in Creative Industries: Cultural Studies, Art History or a Bachelor's of Arts with at least 30 EC in Art History, Cultural Studies and/or Cultural Policy. You are admissible to Tourism and Culture if you have a completed Bachelor's degree with Bachelor thesis in Archaeology, Art History, History, Literary Studies, Cultural Studies, Media Studies, English, Dutch, French, German, Spanish, Philosophy, Liberal Arts or a related discipline. Your degree has to be equivalent to a Dutch research university diploma.
In order to take part in this programme, you need to have fluency in both written and spoken English. Non-native speakers of English without a Dutch Bachelor's degree or VWO diploma need one of the following:
