Law: European and International Law at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam

Civic-minded and specialised: You know how law works

With a master's degree in Law under your belt, you will not only be civic-minded and specialised, but you will also fully understand how law works. In addition, with a master's degree in Law from VU Amsterdam you can go in many directions. You will learn to analyse and solve legal problems in a critical and scholarly way. You will develop expertise in one area of law (or two areas by following two tracks), but you will always get a broad legal foundation. If you opt for the private law track, for example, you will still be able to become  a criminal lawyer. When you complete your master's degree, you can work in any jurisdiction in the Netherlands. Thanks to the wide selection of tracks, you can really put your own stamp on your studies.

Law: European and International Law

After getting your Bachelor’s degree in Law, you can go in many different directions. For example, you can opt for the specialisation in European and International Law and develop an understanding of the role of law in a globalising world. Or do you want to focus on issues like big data, human rights and information security by choosing the specialisation in International Technology Law?

The possibilities are almost endless. Thanks to the wide range of specialisations, you can immerse yourself in the issues that appeal to you the most.

Law: European and International Law

You will learn the skills to successfully contribute to solving social problems.

Your diploma means that you can communicate about 'Law in Action' with colleagues in the legal profession as well as with non-specialists. You will also know how to manoeuvre between theory and practice. And you will be able to give meaning to norms and values that keep society on track.

If you successfully complete the master’s programme in Law at VU Amsterdam, your degree qualifies as the internationally-recognised Master of Laws (abbreviated as LLM) degree. It also qualifies you to use the Dutch title 'meester in de rechten’ (mr.).
