You can choose between 3 majors. In each major, 60% of your time will be invested in practical engineering.
Major 1: Distributed Artificial Intelligence
In your Master's thesis (21 ECTS) and in the course Distributed Artificial Intelligence (12 ECTS) you will build, test and implement solutions for complex machine learning related engineering problems within UAntwerp’s technology test beds (smart highway, smart waterway, autonomous car...). The study programme consists of three main modules: core electronics-ICT competences (24 ECTS), core distributed AI competences (15 ECTS) and distributed AI research competences (21 ECTS).
Major 2: Internet of Things
In your Master's thesis (21 ECTS) and in the course Internet of Things (12 ECTS) you will build, test and deploy solutions for energy aware wireless battery or battery-less applications. The study programme consists of three main modules: core electronics-ICT competences (24 ECTS), core IoT competences (15 ECTS) and IoT research competences (21 ECTS).
Major 3: Cyber-Physical Systems
In your Master's thesis (21 ECTS) and in the course Cyber-Physical Systems (12 ECTS) you will build, test and deploy control solutions in a cyber-physical context with non-trivial functional and non-functional constraints. The study programme consists of three main modules: core electronics-ICT competences (24 ECTS), core CPS competences (15 ECTS) and CPS research competences (21 ECTS).

Internet of Things is becoming a standard engineering technology, increasingly more visible in
environments like smart cities, smart buildings, smart industries, etc.
This IoT expertise will be essential in both IoT engineering firms and on many different application domains like IT for smart cities, mobility, logistics, medical applications, etc.
This programme will enable you to understand these new emergent technologies and support and
manage the disruptive changes towards strongly connected smart environments like cities.
Machine learning and AI in general are becoming standard engineering technologies that are increasingly applied in a highly connected world. For this, distributed AI expertise will be essential in both core AI and IoT engineering companies and in many different application domains such as IT for chemistry, mobility, logistics, medical applications, etc. This programme will enable you to understand these new emergent technologies and support and manage the disruptive changes towards intelligent perception management and control across all
possible application domains and industries.
When you look at new mechanical systems the integration with electronics becomes more
apparent. This revolution from analog towards digitally connected mechanical devices is very visible in manufacturing and mechatronics. The art of solving this complex integration of mechanical control with non-functional requirements like functional safety is often called
I 4.0. This programme will enable you to understand these new emergent technologies, and support and manage the disruptive changes towards industry 4.0.

Applicants need to have an academic Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field. All applications will be screened by the admission board for motivation and background in an academic bachelor of industrial sciences: electronics-ICT.
If your Bachelor’s degree has not been issued by a recognised educational institution in Belgium, the Netherlands or Luxembourg, you will have to prove your proficiency in English.
Admission procedure and deadlines
If your Bachelor’s degree has not been issued by a recognised educational institution in Belgium, the Netherlands or Luxembourg, you will have to follow an online admission procedure that consists of two parts. All information about this procedure is available at www.uantwerp.be/admission.
The deadline is 1 March for non-EEA students and students requiring a student visa, and 15 May for EEA students.
