Biomedical Engineering

Biomedical Engineering is a technical discipline that connects areas of technology, biology and medicine. It focuses on research and development for health care and clinical practices.

Biomedical engineering involves the application of technology in health care and medicine. Health care is developing rapidly, people remain healthy longer, and illnesses can be cured more frequently. Technology plays a key role in prevention, diagnosis, therapy, rehabilitation and care. This encompasses a wide range of activities, including tissue engineering to increase the "friendliness" of implants in the body, 3-D imaging of organs and development of rehabilitation aids and advanced home care systems.

Biomedical Engineering thrives by professionals who can think and work at an academic level, to solve the problems faced by those who provide or require health care. An essential aspect of this involves understanding the role and experience of patients, doctors and paramedics.

At the start of the master programe Biomedical Engineering, each student selects a field of science and a corresponding research group. This choice defines the obligatory courses, which are supplemented by optional courses. The resulting course package has to be approved by the thesis committee prior to the course start. This way each student has his own, tailor made master programe.

Mehr als nur studieren

Die UT ist der Meinung, dass man sich als Student nicht nur auf die Aneignung von Wissen beschränken sollte. Man muss sich auch in anderen Gebieten entwickeln und entfalten können: in Sport, Kultur, Entspannung oder verwaltenden Funktionen. Als einzige Universität in den Niederlanden hat die UT alle Einrichtungen unter einem Dach und das im wörtlichen Sinne gemeint. Die Universität Twente besitzt einen wunderschönen 150 ha großen Campus auf dem alle Bildungseinrichtungen, Sportplätze, Studentenwohnungen und noch viel mehr zu finden sind.

Im Jahr 2003 hat die UT wiederum den ersten Platz erobert im landesweiten Univergleichstest (keuzegids Hoger Onderwijs). Enschede steht ganz oben auf der Rangliste der beliebtesten und meistgeschätzten Universitäten in den Niederlanden. Das kommt unter anderem auch dadurch, dass Enschede eine so schöne Innenstadt besitzt, das großzügige Wohnungsangebot und die vielfältigen und modernen Einrichtungen auf dem Campus.
